Having two toddlers and a baby on the way, I’ve been feeling extra festive this year! Every day I wake up to the adorable and age old question, “is it Christmas yet?!” Our days consist of dancing to A Charlie Brown Christmas on vinyl, holiday movies, baking cookies (cut & bake most of the time…because, well toddlers!!) and making handmade crafts and gifts for family and friends. It’s safe to say, we are fully embracing to magic of this season over here!

It’s no surprise I was really excited to order and send out holiday cards this year. I’ve ordered cards from various stationary companies over the years but hadn’t quite found “the one”. This year I came across Basic Invite and I’m relieved to have finally found my go-to-shop. They are currently offering 30% off Christmas Holiday cards with the code HOLI30 so it’s a great time to check them out!

Shopping around for the perfect company to order your Holiday cards from can be overwhelming, especially during the hustle of the season. I’m hoping to save you a little time by sharing my positive experience with Basic Invite and how they are truly different from the rest.

Over 700 Christmas card and Holiday card designs -To start, they offer over 700 Christmas and Holiday card designs! You can rest assured you’ll be able to find a design that will frame the photo or photos you want to use perfectly.

Almost Unlimited Colors - Basic Invite is one of the few websites that provides almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. Once you select a design you can change the color of each element on the card to over 180 different color options, as seen on these silent night Christmas Cards, so you can make sure the card is exactly how you want it down to the littlest detail. I had a blast customizing the look of my card to coordinate with the colors in my family photo and loved incorporating raised gold foil into my design for an extra dose of creativity and holiday cheer. This is what I feel sets them apart from almost any other online stationery company I’ve found and why I am so drawn to them.

Custom Samples - Although I had a vision in mind, I had moments of doubt when designing the look I wanted for my Holiday card. Knowing I was going to order a large quantity of cards, this offering really took the stress out of the process. Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows you the ability to order a printed sample of your actual invitation so you’ll be able to see exactly how it will print as well as feel the paper quality before you place your  final order. In the end, I knew exactly what I was ordering and felt great about it - it’s all in the details!

Over 40 Different Colors of Envelopes - Basic Invite is just as colorful with their envelopes as they are with their invitations. You’ll get to choose from 40 different colors when it comes to their envelopes so you’re invitation will bring a little extra sunshine even before it is opened. I was excited to learn all their envelopes are peel and seal so they can be quickly and securely closed without licking a single one. Whew!

Address Capturing Service - Basic Invite really gets how crazy busy this time of year is for their customers and as a busy mother of two and a business owner, I couldn’t appreciate that more! As customers, this offering really takes a lot off our plates! Basic Invite offers an address capturing service that allows you to simply share a link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other form of social media to request your friends and family’s addresses which can then be stored in your customer account and selected during the design process. Basic Invite offers recipient address printing at no cost on all Christmas card orders. This feature comes in handy for busy families, businesses and those looking to order charity Christmas cards.

Foil -A touch of foil makes a lasting impression! Foil holiday cards are available in gold, silver, and rose gold. You’ll have the option of choosing flat or raised foil on all of Basic Invite’s foil designs. As mentioned before, I went with raised foil and love the look and feel!

The People - I had a few questions while creating my Holiday cards and I was blown away by Basic Invite’s customer service. They have an accessible customer support team that is happy to help and quick to answer questions. Feeling like I had a friendly and cheerful team behind me made all the difference throughout the process!

Happy Designing, Friends!

Choosing outfits for fall family sessions can be overwhelming at first, but I’m here to help you take the stress out of it and encourage you to have fun with it! Instead of getting so focused on each person’s individual outfit, think about it as dressing your entire group as you would one person. You want your colors, textures and patterns to flow rather than compete with each eachother. Here are some tips to get you started. Don’t forget, I am always here to help as you start planning for your session!

  • Start with considering your location. For example, is your shoot in a natural setting surrounded by greenery? In this case, you’ll want to avoid wearing green to prevent you from blending in too much. Neutrals and colors you’d find in nature are always complementary while also allowing you to stand out from your setting.

  • Choose two main hues you love, and develop your color scheme around them. Use the accent color (the brightest color)— sparingly. I’m always a fan of how neutrals with a pop of color looks in a fall setting.

  • Use patterns sparingly. Try to choose one person in the family to wear a patterned piece and the rest should wear colors that coordinate with it. It’s okay if a couple people are in patterns if they are subtle and do not compete.

  • Textures are your friend. Subtle textures like raised stripes on a sweater or lace can add a touch of your personality and style without being overbearing.

  • Coordinate don’t match – Avoid being to matchy- matchy…just make it a goal to have all the colors blend nicely together.

  • Simple touches. Adding simple and sweet details such as suspenders or a delicate headband for the littles will up the cuteness level.

  • Layers! Layers aren’t required but can be fun and create visual interest. They will keep you cozy while we’re outside in the crisp fall air. Think cardigans, blazers, tights and/or a scarf.

This family did such a great job of layering as well as adding adorable accents to their girls which took their cuteness to the next level.

I love how different and unique all my clients are! No session is the same and that makes it so and refreshing! Below, I’ve included a few sessions with very different clothing choices but they all did a great job of making their overall look come together. The most important tip I can give is to have fun with it and have everyone dress in something they love and feel good in!

This rad family looked cool, calm and collected rocking a couple of different patterns and even throwing a graphic tee in there. They kept their colors limited to white, black and various shades of gray which gave them wiggle room for those little extras that made a the look cool and styled.

This session was so sweet all the way down to their attire. The boys in the family rocked solids allowing the ladies to have a little fun with patterns. I love the way mama and her little girl were able to both wear patterns. Because they weren’t loud or too busy, this worked out beautifully!

I abostluely love this effortlessly styled look on this family and the way they tied in both plaid and camouflage into their shoot! The little extra touch of the plaid button up on mom’s waist is fun and playful while also adding visual interest.

Each child in this family was able to express their individual style while still providing a great, unified look.

Katlin & Jeff are just too cute for words. They share a love and sweetness for each other that is authentic and so very obvious to everyone they know. I am so honored they chose me to document their engagement and wedding day. I wasn't surprised that when I asked them to share their engagement story, it would be a good one.

So excited for this guest post from these lovers. Enjoy!
